MED-Project: Medication Education & Disposal
Safe Medication Return, formerly handled by King County, is now a unified, statewide program that gives Washington residents free, convenient, and environmentally responsible options to dispose of unwanted medication. Drug manufacturers fund the program at no cost to taxpayers. The Washington State Department of Health (WADOH) launched the medicine disposal program in November 2021, joining all Washington counties in a statewide medicine disposal program intended to stress the importance of proper disposal and to make the process easy..
It is important that patients take their medicines as prescribed by their health care provider. However, expired or unwanted medicines must be disposed of properly.
