Coyote Encounters / Sightings
COYOTES AMONG US
Villagers have experienced a noticeable increase in the number of coyote sightings and/or encounters -- some of the encounters have involved pet stalking and have felt very uncomfortable for those involved, humans and pets. As the coyotes living among us become less afraid of humans and more bold in their behavior, action is needed.
The Town has contracted with APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service), an agency of the USDA for help addressing the coyote situation in our area. To support their efforts, we are asking Villagers to share their recent experiences -- both first-hand encounters and sightings in the Village.
We encourage you to share information about these experiences with Clerk/Treasurer Sue Ann Spens using our Contact Us page. Please choose "Coyote Sighting / Encounter" under "Department to Contact", and your email will be delivered directly. Your report should include your name, your phone number or email address, the location of the incident (nearest intersection is sufficient), and the type of incident (coyote sighting, encounter, stalking, etc.) The information you provide will be shared with APHIS agents, who will contact you for more information, if needed.
Thank you for your help with this endeavor. Our hope is to ensure that Villagers and their pets remain as safe as possible.
